Understanding category managementWINNIPEG – Whether you’re a producer, food processor or supplier, understanding category management is crucial to the value chain process. Learn the ins and outs of this retailing concept at a Value Chain Manitoba Initiative (VCMI) workshop on Feb. 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Category management means the total range of products sold by a retailer is divided into groups of similar products termed categories. Examples of food categories are dairy, meat, bakery, produce and snacks. Each category is then run like an independent business unit with its own set of profitability targets and strategies. The workshop will be video conferenced from the host site, which will be the Norquay Building in Winnipeg at 401 York Avenue (Room 913), to MAFRI GO offices across the province including: Arborg, Beausejour, Brandon, Carman, Dauphin, Flin Flon, Russell, Somerset, Souris, St. Pierre, Swan River, Teulon, The Pas and Winkler. Registration is free and registration forms can be found on the VCMI website, www.valuechainmb.ca. Value Chain Manitoba is a collaboration initiated by the Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council (MRAC), with funding from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, in partnership with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives (MAFRI). VCMI encourages and assists Manitoba’s agri-food industry to become more competitive through value chain development. For more information visit www.valuechainmb.ca.
