MRAC gives back to ag community

WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council (MRAC) continued its giving back to the agricultural community campaign by donating $300 to the Manitoba Farm and Rural Stress Line (MFRSL) in lieu of speaker thank you gifts at its recent Annual General Meeting.

Barry Routledge, chair of the MRAC board of directors, presented Leanne Brackenreed of the MFRSL with the $300 cheque during the AGM on March 18 at the Canad Inns in Portage la Prairie.

“Agriculture organizations never want to forget their roots and as such MRAC is pleased to give back to the community whenever it can. As executive director, I am proud of the fact that our office participates in a variety of ways including deferring AGM speaker gifts in favor of a financial donation to MFRSL, participating in jeans day Fridays with donations to Manitoba Cancer Care, and 100 per cent office participation in the recent United Way campaign,” said Ted Eastley, MRAC executive director.

The Manitoba Farm and Rural Stress Line, which began in December 2000, provides information, support, counseling and referrals to farm and rural families throughout the province. The stress line is funded by Manitoba Health and is a program of Klinic Community Health Centre. For more information on the Manitoba Farm and Rural Stress Line visit www.ruralstress.ca.

MRAC delivers Manitoba’s portion ($9.5 million) of the five-year $163 million Canadian Agricultural Adaptation Program (CAAP). CAAP’s objective is to help the agricultural sector adapt and remain competitive. For more information on MRAC and CAAP please visit our new website at www.mrac.ca.
