Discover Agriculture in the City

WINNIPEG - Did you know that waste products from the potato processing industry can be used to make biodegradable plastic products such as greenhouse pots and Frisbees? Or that the juice extracted from an alfalfa plant can be used to make a pure alfalfa powder that will boost energy levels?

Discover these projects and much more at the Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council’s display during Discover Agriculture in the City. Visit the Forks Market in Winnipeg on Friday, March 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to discover agriculture in the city.

“This is an excellent opportunity for consumers to actively interface with the people that devote their livelihoods to producing the nation’s food, clothing, shelter and various agri-products in an acceptable social, economic and environmental manner. Come out and meet some of the faces of agriculture,” said Ted Eastley, MRAC executive director.

The interactive display will feature visuals from three successful MRAC-funded projects, as well as photos from a dairy value chain project which describes every link in the chain – producer, processor and retail partner. MRAC, together with Organic Meadow, will also hand out samples of milk on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m.
