Towards a Practical Test for Campylobacter Fetus in Beef Cattle: Getting to the bottom of Reproductive Failure in Cow-Calf Herds
Project Description
This project will be conducted in two phases. First, two separate tests will be compared for Campylobacter fetus via an innovative culture technique and a real-time PCR test performed by the new molecular research laboratory at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). If the results of the PCR test are supported by culture (Objective 1), the researchers will proceed with a project to pilot the use of this study under field conditions.
Project Objectives
To evaluate and optimize a new field collection protocol and PCR test for Campylobacter fetus in beef bulls, and pilot the use of this test in veterinary practices across Western Canada.
