Performance Story:
The speaker supported through this project made both members within the organization and the more broadly based community aware of the importance of communicating with publics that do not understand what an organization or an industry does particularly when those publics can have an impact on well-being or the entity. Given that a good portion of the activities undertaken by the conservation districts takes part in, or involves agricultural land, it is important for everyone, particularly those in non-agricultural areas, to understand the interface between conservation and agriculture. At the same time, farmers need to understand the role conservation can and needs to play on the agricultural landscape. The speaker planted the seed regarding what happens (the cost) when communication does not occur and was ranked highest out of all speakers at the convention. As a follow up, the MCDA will be developing a strategic communications plan.
