Performance Story:
The Res/Op Technologies project was successful in several areas including the environment. The project is an environmentally sound method of waste removal. It can completely destroy the prions found in hazardous waste, including BSE prions, which is of major significance to the ag sector in Canada.
A pre-commercial sized Orverter was created for this project. The Orverter is a closed coupled combustor technology that completely consumes organic or biomass waste materials along with any harmful pathogens included in these materials.
The project succeeded in creating a pilot facility that completely destroyed all intended materials. Emissions tests have yet to be completed, however initial protein tests showed no protein content in the by-product. This means no BSE prions would survive the process.
This project has a wide scope of beneficiaries. Slaughter and rendering companies along with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will benefit from a technology that destroys specified risk materials (SRMs) and other pathogens that could pose a danger to the public. Municipal, town and city waste management departments will benefit from a process that is a permanent and environmentally viable solution to landfills and municipal solid wastes.
The Res/Op Technologies group will be pursuing this project on a commercial level.
