MB Swine Seminar
Project Description
This two day conference provides a unique opportunity for industry participants to gain knowledge on current topics of interest that impact the pork production industry. During the event, pig producers, supporting industries involved in the swine sector, academia and government personnel will interact with a number of subject matter experts and exchange information and ideas to help Manitoba remain a leader in pork production in Canada and abroad. Some of the new and emerging issues featured at the event dealt with increasing pork profits by implementing innovative methods for reducing costs, the use of dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) in swine rations, organic pig production, the proper use of phytase in swine diets, and the impact of weaning age in pig production.
Project Objectives
To provide those in the pork industry with the opportunity to gain knowledge on current topics of interest that impact the industry, which will help Manitoba remain a leader in pork production in Canada and abroad.

Performance Story:
The Manitoba Swine Seminar is a unique opportunity for industry participants to update their knowledge in current topics of interest for the pork production industry. There is a need to continually raise the highest quality pork products and new tools need to be developed to ensure Manitoba is competitive in the pork industry.
The approximately 400 conference participants were provided with the knowledge and tools needed to immediately improve their operations both in terms of improving productivity and reducing costs.
This two-day event benefited pork producers, the provincial pork industry and rural communities.
Participant feedback was very positive with many people indicating that the Manitoba Swine Seminar should be considered one of the best events of its kind in North America.
