Project Objectives:
The goal of the Manitoba Green Show is to provide members of the horticulture industry with new educational opportunities that will provide them with the tools and knowledge to run successful and sustainable businesses; to provide students and those entering into the industry along with those already in the industry with an exciting event and a great networking opportunity that will encourage their commitment to industry participation; to provide exhibitors with a means of providing information to industry members; and to provide an opportunity for individuals to participate in professional development programs through certification testing and training sessions.
Project Description:
This project will provide industry members and students with information on plant nutrient management which will cover the basics for greenhouse operators to develop a plant nutrient program in relation to water, pH and crop nutrition for plant production. Specific examples from MB greenhouses will be used to ensure that the delegates relate to the presented issues.
Performance Story:
Approximately 350 people attended Landscape Manitoba's 2009 Manitoba Green Show in Winnipeg. The purpose of the event was to provide members of the horticulture industry with new educational opportunities that will help them run successful and sustainable businesses.
Speakers provided information on designing greenhouse nutrient management programming taking into account issues related to water quality, irrigation practices and pH drift to allow operators to implement effective and environmentally sound nutrient management practices.
This project benefited members of the horticulture industry in Manitoba by giving them valuable information they can use in their businesses. The Manitoba environment also benefited from this project as attendees learned ways to be better environmental stewards (ie. reducing water and pesticide use).
Feedback from conference attendees was very positive.
