Project Description

Based on the consultant's recommendations and focus group results, a new Interim Agency will be established to deliver the EFP program for Manitoba and will be managed by a producer-dominated Board of Directors.

Project Objectives

To implement incorporation procedures with the assistance of a consultant who would act as the temporary secretariat to the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Board until such time as formal funding arrangements are finalized under the APF.

General Information

Observations & Conclusions:
All expected outcomes were achieved in the final business plan. The business plan laid the scope for a new, independent operating agency, the Farm Stewardship Association Manitoba (FSAM).

This not-for-profit agency will work in partnership with AAFC and MAFRI through the auspices of the Federal/Provincial working group to deliver the environmental farm plan program in Manitoba, including individual environmental farm plans, EFPs and equivalent farm plans.

The overall mission statement for the Farm Stewardship Association of Manitoba Inc. can be summarized as follows:

"FSAM exists to assist producers and groups with the voluntary completion and review of confidential environmental farm plans. Farm plans will consist of identifying environmental assets and risks and developing action plans to mitigate the risks. FSAM working in partnership with AAFC and MAFRI and other key stakeholders such as Ducks Unlimited, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Environment Canada, Manitoba Conservation and others, will adapt strategies as required to meet the needs of the industry."
