Impacts: Soil Spreading Scraper

In 2006 the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) partnered with Adolf Vaags Ltd. to evaluate and test the concept of a soil spreading scraper and determine critical applications for the implement’s life and performance.

This MRAC-funded project titled, Product Development of Soil Spreading Scraper, took a developing product concept and made it into an instrumented operating prototype, which was field tested in operating conditions to allow for power input data collection and analysis. The analyzed data was used to optimize the performance and sizing of driveline components, resulting in a simplified and more durable design. Design changes were retested before implementing into the final design and solid model drawing set. The production version of the soil spreading scraper has been designated as the Wolverine under the Dynamic Ditchers Inc. name.

Approximately 40 units have been manufactured and sold so far. Dynamic Ditchers hopes to increase the number of dealers from five to 15 or 20 by September 2011.

Modifications have also been made to the feeding system and some components (tips and impeller paddles) are now made of higher quality material for improved longevity. A customer from North Dakota stated the 2010 model outperformed the 2009 model by 30 per cent.
