Identifying Cdn Honeys and Developing Palynological Reference Works
Project Description
This project will make it possible to market differentiated honeys based on mono-specific floral sources which can result in local products that are considerable more varied and at a higher sale price. Honey, pollen and flower samples will be collected all over Canada. A reference collection of Canadian honey and polliniferous plant pollen will be put together. All pollen grains recorded will be photographed and digitized to create a CD that will be made available to beekeeping advisors from all provinces. Identification keys will also be developed to accompany the photo CD and facilitate the identification of pollen grains.
Project Objectives
To develop tools and Canadian expertise to identify honeys and pollen to allow production of, and consumer access to, honeys made from specific floral sources, a top criteria asked by consumers.
