MB Made Template for EFP's
Create a producer vision of an environmental farm plan template and give producers a voice in developing the workbook template for Manitoba, and assess the characteristics, opportunities and applicability of the existing Canadian farm plan models, including KAP's Farm Planner; engage producers in a series of focus groups to develop their vision of a farm plan template for Manitoba; and develop a farm plan workbook.
MB EFP Interim Agency Search
Hire a consultant to implement incorporation procedures and act as a temporary secretariat to the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Board until such time as formal funding arrangements are finalized under the APF.
EFP Agency Search and Business Plan
Recommend a suitable delivery agency for the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) program in Manitoba based on a detailed cost benefit analysis. A complete business plan and policy and procedures manual will also be developed which will include governance, legal structure and operating budget for the determined delivery agency.
Results:
The Farm Stewardship Association of Manitoba (FSAM) Inc. was created in 2004. It is managed by an industry led Board of Directors and works in partnership with AAFC and MAFRI. FSAM will provide services to increase awareness and facilitate the continuous adoption of economical and practical management practices to reduce the environmental impacts of primary production practices. It will also promote the positive image of the farm sector by identifying the environmental asset base that is in place. The agency will focus its efforts on the delivery of the Environmental Farm Plan program in Manitoba.
Mandate
The FSAM mission statement is as follows:
"The Farm Stewardship Association of Manitoba (FSAM) Inc. exists to assist producers and groups with the voluntary completion and review of confidential environmental farm plans. Farm plans will consist of identifying environmental assets and risks and developing action plans to mitigate the risks. Working in partnership with AAFC and MAFRI, FSAM will adapt its strategies and objectives as required to meet the needs of the industry."
FSAM will endeavour to:
- Establish a user-friendly EFP format which meets the needs of the various stakeholders.
- Work with partnering agencies such as AAFC and MAFRI to ensure professional and technical support is available to producers for the purpose of completing an EFP.
- Help integrate and coordinate the programs by partnering with agencies that will assist producers in developing and implementing EFPs.
- Promote and encourage producers to participate in the EFP Program to assist the farming industry with sustainable practices.
- Promote environmental awareness to protect the right of independent action and reduce producers' potential liability issues.
- Educate the public at large about the responsible best management practices producers have been using and are continuing to use.
- Facilitate access to current environmental support programs.
- Help producers meet or exceed regulatory standards.
