Determining MB-Based Reduction for Nitrous Oxide Emission Reduction Program (NERP)
Project Description
The applicant has developed an on-farm nutrient management system (4R Right Source at Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place stewardship model) based on the three pillars of sustainability - Social, Economic and Environmental - which can be implemented through a series of best management practices tailored specifically to region and primary objective.
As a means to implement this 4R system, the industry is driving the development of a Nitrous Oxide Emission Reduction Protocol, NERP, in Canada designed for Alberta's current regulations to provide monetary incentives to implement the 4R system, and drives advancement in the agricultural research and the associated extension to growers, aggregators, and professional agricultural advisors.
The research aims to provide Manitoba-specific BMP GHG emission reduction factors within the national NERP framework, according to 4R, championed by the Canadian Fertilizer Institute.
Project Objectives
To provide the first provincial-specific BMP emission-reduction factors positioning Manitoba farmers in the forefront of credit incentive development.
