Project Description:
To attain the objectives this project will endeavour to optimise semen preservation methods, develop new technology for the efficient production of bison embryos in vitro, develop methods for the successful cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos (for future use). This project will be conducted in a collaborative manner integrating the efforts of a group of researchers from various sectors, with a shared vision of conserving endangered wildlife. In addition, this project will provide an opportunity to develop expertise and infrastructure facilities in the new veterinary school and make these resources available to conservation programs for other species.
Project Objective:
This project will assist in developing reproductive technologies for preserving the genetic diversity of free-ranging and captive bison populations. Development of such techniques will help position the federal government to implement depopulation policies aimed to the eradication of wildlife diseases.
