Project Objectives:
To give local industries, scientists and the public an opportunity to meet and gather information on plant pathology challenges and solutions to Canadian agriculture and feature Manitoba achievements.
Project Description:
This annual meeting is an opportunity for scientists from different parts of Canada and the world to share their views and most recent findings on plant diseases. It will also allow scientists and industry people from elsewhere to discover what is and can be done in Manitoba.
Performance Story:
There is increasing pressure of plant diseases on the production of several plant species, including food and forestry crops which cause pressures on the availability of food, feed and other commodities.
Presenters at this event shared information on important diseases in canola, wheat, pulse, oilseeds and horticultural crops. The items addressed will help to establish what is known about different diseases and aid Manitoba producers, provincial and federal governments and university scientists to jointly focus on the issues where sufficient information to effectively understand and control the diseases is lacking.
Informal feedback to the organizing committee was very positive.
Approximately 90 abstracts will be published on some of these presentations in the Canadian Journal of Plant Pathology.
